oh, alright then. actually, come to think of it, in the first photos, the ones with the clever retro colorization, she does look tan.

Nataluna thanks for the links. Now to find that story on ebay! Or I wonder if it is at the library? Oh well.

I wish Momoko came in a variety of "skin" colors, but I'm happily making my own dark momo before I wait on that to happen.

tell me, can you dye the bodies the same way as the heads? i imagine the timing must be different, though, because the heads would be more porous material(?) ...

I have not tried to dye a body yet, but have plan to do so. I would guess they would need to be dipped much longer than the heads, too. I painted the body I'm working on now, but the joints won't keep the paint. I'm satisfied with her for now, but she will probably always be a work in progres. I am painting a SAJ body now (that one is much harder than momo so I don't think it will dye up at all). I plan to drop a tan body in a mixture of orange dye to see if it will, be compatible for my 03ssor.

have you tried the painting techniques they talk about over here:

with the autovinyl spray paint and stuff?
but momokos are hard plastic bodies (resin? hard vinyl?) so not sure which paint should work...

Yeah. I got a few pointers from DollsAhoy! The joints won't keep the paint though because the part that make up the joint rub together.

I am sure momoko is hard plastic or vinyl. She gets soft from my heating pad. The SAJ body is a different plastic/vinyl though and my heating pad just makes her hot.

Super Action Jenny body. It is a body made by Azone. It is almost identical to the Petworks Momoko body. The boobs are just smaller. It is a fairly inexpensive doll body, too. I think Manika has some for like $18.

second this!

will she look Ethiopian or Eritrean, maybe? i think the faces of people from that region might fit momoko features.

i also think the tan dolls could be more often modded into mestizas (mixed-race) characters: Latinas, Filipinas, etc.
Maybe even Indian subcontinent and MiddleEastern characters could also be invented for tan momokos.

Imagine our costuming possibilities if they all had a festival in traditional dress!! (or imagined them from places where the traditional styles of dress are still worn)

and... for some reason i've always felt that B-girl is Jewish (well, at least mine will be, if i ever manage to get one). she also reminds me of Frida Kahlo (who was half jewish and half mexican), partly because i once saw one on ebay that was badly re-painted and would have benefited from a unibrow.

...

we need a how-to area for all the things we learn about skintone and other extreme modding of dolls??? or is there one already?
